Our Board of Directors consists of nine members each elected to 3-year terms. Divided into three classes, a new class is elected each year by the members of the SMA.  One of the directors maybe an associate member.  The executive director is contracted by the board as an ex-officio (not elected) member of the board and serves without vote.  The board elects the corporate officers annually. The directors meet regularly by tele-conference and hold 1 - 3 face to face meetings each year.

Steve Guenzel - President

I have been involved in the stair industry for the past 35 years, and a proud member of the SMA for 5 years. Having formerly served as Board Member, Secretary and Vice President, I have learned a lot and am still very interested in helping our great organization continue to grow and develop in a new direction.
I feel my experience in the hands-on sector of our industry helps me understand the challenges and needs of our membership. Having worked for and owned a stair manufacturing company, I believe I can bring firsthand knowledge and create an environment of willingness to share within our membership.

Brandon Barnes -  Vice President

Born and raised in North Western North Carolina Brandon Barnes resides in Wilkesboro, NC and has been with Crown Heritage for 15 years.  Brandon began his career in the millwork industry with the parent company of Crown Heritage (ECMD) which distributes mouldings, stair parts, and other interior & exterior building products for use in residential construction.  Brandon now serves as National Sales Manager for Crown Heritage Stair Company.  Brandon was origninally elected to a two year term and has been serving as Treasurer of the SMA for the last year. In 2015 Brandon was elected to a second term of three years

Brad Rippel - Secretary

Brad Rippel

I have been directly involved in the stair industry for the past 25 years, and a proud member of the SMA for many of those years. After having served one full term as a Director several years ago, I am once again interested in helping our great organization continue to grow and prosper.

I feel that my diversity of experience in this industry includes a very broad scope of exposure to the core make-up of our membership. Having represented the stair parts manufacturer's side of the equation as well as the stair-builder and independent sales sector, I feel well-suited to communicate effectively across the board.

Delon Shetler- Treasurer

Delon Shetler started building stairways in a small shop in 1993 and has worked in the stair industry as a stair builder, balustrade/rail installer, independent sales rep, and designer/draftsman. He is interested in helping the SMA and the stair industry continue to grow in a way that ensures safety and comfort to the consumer while allowing stairway design to be artistic and appealing. Delon was elected to his first term the board in 2015 and is co-owner of Heartland Stairways in Holmesville, OH..

Greg Chamberlain

I have been directly and indirectly involved in the stair industry for the majority of my life.  I live in Eatonton, Ga, where Stair South is located, with my wife Lindsey and two children Jolie, 7 and Liam, 3.  My dad, Dennis Chamberlain, started Stair South in the early 90's to fill the needs of a growing community in Georgia.  Today, Dad and I fill many roles, but my main responsibilities are business operations, installs and sales.  I am eager to offer new ideas to help grow the SMA; which, as been a huge resource for us.  I also hope to share my insight in on-site installs and business operations

Sarah Beth Hamlin

Sarah Beth Hamlin has been involved with SMA since she attended her first annual conference five years ago.  She has been active on the marketing committee and has served on the board for the past year by appointment to a 1 year vacancy.  She has seen first-hand the vital role SMA serves in the stair industry through codes and education.  Sarah Beth Hamlin is currently the VP of Sales and Marketing at Young Manufacturing Company, Inc. located in Beaver Dam, KY.

Jim Lewis

Jim was introduced to the stair industry in 1991 and has been involved in many different roles. Elected in 2014 to serve on the Board, Jim also serves as chair of the Marketing/Membership Committee. Jim is the President of Vision Stairways & Millwork / Tango Doors located in Atlanta, GA.

"It is my pleasure to help cultivate and grow a great organization like the SMA."

Rusty Parks

I began as a finish carpenter in 1980 after graduating high school.  In 2005, we opened our shop and began building most of our stairs in the shop rather than on-site. We are growing despite a tough market, thanks to our CNC capabilities and our expanded knowledge through the SMA. Hopefully, I can encourage others to be part of the SMA and the things that they are working toward as an organization. I believe that sharing this knowledge with others will be beneficial to the industry and would like to do what I can to help.

Ed Trimner

    Ed Trimner

For the past 25 years Ed has been building and installing staircases in SW Florida.  As a member of the SMA for many years and he has served on the Board of Directors in the past. While participating on the Quality Standards, and Code committees, he has gained a deep appreciation for the professionalism of this organization and the progress made in improving the stair industry throughout the country.

Ed looks forward to participating as a director and as Chair of the Quality Standard committee.  Ed Trimner is the President of Trimcraft in Fort Meyers, FL.
