Wednesday, April 17th

Shop Tour with Top Tread Stairways

This special preconference shop tour will take us to Sierra Vista where we will tour the Shop Top Tread Stairways.  Clyde won the 2021 StairCraft Award for Best Curved Stairway – Traditional with his Giant Stair Slide.  And, as luck would have it, we will be able to view a similar stair being built in his shop during our Shop Tour.  We will be meeting our charter bus at the Westward Look Wyndham Resort and Spa Lobby and transporting 2 hours to Sierra Vista for this exciting opportunity. After the Shop Tour, we will have delicious food at a local taco spot before heading back to the hotel. 

Cooking Class

Chef Linda will teach you how to make some of the local favorites in this special event just for SMA attendees.  5-course meal will include a variety of local fare that you do not want to miss.

The menu includes Chile Rellenos, Guacamole, Arroz Verde, greens with Cilantro Pepita Dressing, and Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies.  

All gluten free, except cookies. 

Taco Bike Tour

Tucson is know for its food and what better way to experience the authentic Mexican cuisine than by bike?  Take a 10 mile ride thru the south side where you will feast on authentic tacos from the best local spots.  You will also be able to enjoy the Tucson famous Sonoran Hotdog.  This trip include a local guide, fitted bicycle, helmet, water in a reusable bottle, a Sonoran hotdog and up to 5 tacos. The event ends near local breweries where you can celebrate the day.

Annual Golf Event

 This event is a shotgun, scramble tournament which levels the playing field and makes play fun for golfers and non-golfers alike.  Get complete details by clicking the “Register Now” button.

Saguaro National Park Hike

Join us for a short 2-mile hike through the Saguaro National Park, home to the nations largest cacti.  The giant saguaro is an iconic symbol of the west. The hike will be followed by a delicious lunch at an authentic, local restaurant serving up some of the best Mexican fare. 

Friday, April 19th

Mural Bike Tour

Explore the streets of Tucson and discover its fantastic murals on this 3-hour guided bike ride throughout town.  With 25 murals throughout the city, you will watch their stories come to life while viewing these inspiring pieces of art.  We will stop for lunch following the tour at one of Tucson’s famed restaurants.

Chef Linda will teach you how to make some of the local favorites in this special event just for SMA attendees.  4-course meal will include a variety of local fare that you do not want to miss.  Participants will receive hands-on instruction and a take-home recipe book. 

THE DETAILS:  Participants will be making Taquitos de Papas (potato taquitos) and Baked Chicken in Mole Poblano.  You will also learn how to make Arroz Rojo (red rice) and Churros.  

This meal is gluten free (except for the Churros).

About the Chef:  Linda is a food anthropologist, cooking teacher and writer with a focus on piquing the interests and expanding the skills of the home cook. Her philosophy? Food is a pathway toward understanding people, their history, culture, economy, politics and more.

Jeep Tour

Explore the natural wonders of Saguaro National Park East on our guided Jeep tour! Knowledgeable guides will take you on a scenic journey through the park, where you’ll encounter towering saguaro cacti, stunning rock formations, and a variety of native wildlife. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the park’s unique ecology, as well as its rich cultural history.

These events are open to SMA Annual Conference registrants and their guests only.
