The 2026 SMA Annual Auction was an evening to remember. Held at the historic J. Rieger & Co. Distillery in Kansas City, Missouri, attendees stepped into a speakeasy inspired atmosphere complete with handcrafted cocktails, unique surroundings, and even an indoor slide that added to the fun and excitement of the evening.
What followed was one of the most successful fundraising events in SMA history. Thanks to the incredible generosity of SMA members, industry partners, sponsors, and donors, the auction raised a record setting $24,770 in support of the SMA Testing and Research Initiative.
This year’s event featured several exciting additions, including an expanded silent auction and a paddle raise, giving attendees even more opportunities to contribute to a cause that benefits the entire stair industry. Combined with a diverse selection of donated items and experiences, these new fundraising elements helped propel the event to new heights. Throughout the evening, our spirited MC & Auctioneer kept the energy high as friendly competition and enthusiastic bidding drove prices upward. Attendees eagerly raised their paddles, rallied behind worthy causes, and demonstrated the remarkable generosity that defines the SMA community.
The funds raised through the auction directly support the SMA Testing and Research Initiative, helping advance critical research, technical resources, and industry knowledge that improve safety, support innovation, and strengthen the future of stairbuilding.
While the final fundraising total was certainly worth celebrating, the true highlight of the evening was witnessing the SMA community come together in support of a shared mission. The generosity and commitment displayed throughout the auction are a testament to the strength of our association and the dedication of its members.
